Last week the xfactor kicked off and with it, a whole pile of controversy. Nothing new there then… like big brother, the xfactor has become everyone’s favorite show to hate. That was proved last year by the Christmas no.1 showdown between Simon Cowell and the Public. Don’t think for one minute it was Joe -v- Rage Against the Machine…
The best act last week was probably this one… (Gamu Nhengu)
But there’s a problem… she’s been autotuned! Last week i was watching that and said to myself, “that’s incredible, she’s almost got an autotune-like voice” and i then remember getting angry that she was ‘putting on’ this voice because i felt that couldn’t possibly be her natural singing voice – it must have took years of practice to build it in. I felt the fact she was trying to replicate autotune in a natural voice should be frowned upon, not applauded. And i also remember waiting for Simon Cowell’s reaction – expecting him to have a dig at her for (a) her false / wierd voice (b) being too stern / static on stage. I was disappointed when he mentioned neither. The other 3 judges will protect themselves and are easily lead by the audience, so i never expect them to speak the truth.
It was only yesterday i discovered that performance was in fact autotuned along with others… and xfactor admitted it straight after the show. And cowell wonders why people are out to get him…
He also put through this contestant who he described as ‘Fantastically nuts’. It turns out he was right… she’s now been dropped following medical record checks..
It’s his own sanity that must be questioned if he thinks this is the sort of stuff people want. It’s become a circus, just like big brother. A place where you get through to the latter stages being false, crazy and talentless. The demise of xfactor is near…
