Weekend in Dublin

Dublin, Ireland

I spent all day yesterday and today in Dublin with my girlfriend, taking it easy (which explains the unusually short blog post yesterday). The weather was excellent which made for a great weekend and some great photos as you’ll see below…

Yesterday we went out to Dundrum Town center on the LUAS, shopped, then came back in to City and then went out to Dundrum again to see Alice in Wonderland in 3D. I’m really getting fed up with 3D Films – i don’t know if it’s just me but the colour is poor and everything loses it’s sharpness slightly… that’s not something i’m willing sacrifice for 3D effects. 3D does involve you more but it still has a long way to go. I’ve no doubt the 3D we’re used to today will be laughed at in years to come…

Anyway, although yesterday was a great day weather wise too, it was even better today as you’ll see from these photos i took earlier…

As you can see, my camera was kept busy and there’s a lot more where they came from on my flickr. Had i not bothered taking my camera, my eyes would have captured all the above, but YOU never know (or see) all of that, hence the importance of photos

Anyway, we stayed in the Morgan Hotel on Fleet Street (we stayed there a few years ago too). It’s in a great location about half way between between Grafton Street & O’ Connell Street. Whilst this was our 2nd visit (so obviously we were pretty happy first time around), i’ll pick a few holes in the 4* Morgan this time around…

No Directions

We were staying on floor 2, room 230. When we took the lift up to the second floor and stepped out we could go left or right – rooms on either side. But there was no sign on the wall telling us what direction our room numbers was in. That’s just basic stuff. It’s not even ‘detail’ – it’s just common sense, you expect that stuff.

Breakfast Times

No breakfast times ANYWHERE. Yes, we were told when checking in but didn’t pay much attention and forgot. Again you expect breakfast times to be on your keycard, in the room, on the hotel website…. nothing. Having to ring down to check is a huge waste of staff time – i’m sure it must be one of their most common calls – “what time is breakfast at?”.

Are you afraid of the dark?

When people say rooms are dark they’re usually exaggerating. I’m not when i say the hallways & lift in this hotel are incredibly dark… so dark i couldn’t even see the numbers on the lift panel because the blue LEDS were so bright in contrast to the engraved metal numbers. Whilst i have no problem with that and it might be all part of an overall theme, i’m sure a lot of people (particularly more elderly people) don’t like it.

Positives

Rooms were pretty bright and spacey. Snow white colour theme and clean as a whistle with a nice modern bathroom. Rooms couldn’t be faulted and it’s not too often i’ll say that 😉 Would i go back? Yes, but there are little things (like above) that put me off. You’ll see from the photos below though that the hotel is pretty funky and clean…

Back to reality

I start back to college tomorrow after a two week easter break. Traditionally i don’t do well at this time of year. That’s what my results would say anyway… my Christmas exam marks are always higher. Will this summer be different? Hard to say… i’m already drifting towards summer and planning things i want to do.
