Tomorrow i’m heading to the Giant’s Causeway for the first time. It’s probably the type of place i’ll only visit once and that will be it, but it’s on my list of ‘things to do & see in ireland’ so it has to be done….
So what is the Giant’s Causeway? A few rocks along the coast, but not just any rocks…. Pillars of rocks in hexagonal shapes. Thanks to google streetview i can get as far as the car park which costs £6 to park in… as far as i know that’s the only charge though. You have to walk from the car park along the cliff side or you can pay for shuttle bus which would just be lazy at my age 🙂
Wikipedia tells me the visitor center was burned down 10 years ago and a new one is under construction (yes, 10 years later!). The current set up is a bit underwhelming looking at streetview.
It’s just over a 2 hour drive away from me which i’d normally be wary of in my old car but now that i have a new set of wheels & up to date sat nav maps, i’m happy to go anywhere. It will be another great opportunity for some photos and as usual, i’ll upload them to my flickr and show them off on this blog.
Weather wise tomorrow is predicted to have ‘sunny intervals with light rain forecast for 4pm’ so that’ll do nicely. I’ll probably be there around noon so i should have seen everything by the time the rain comes.
Is there a reason for the 'list' of places that have to be visited?
It seems that you're doing this because you have to rather than because you want to.
well i don't mind visiting them all and there are some reasons for the list;
1. photos (i'd like to build up a collection of images from all the big attractions)
2. to get to know & appreciate the country a bit better… when i think holidays, i think 'plane' / 'abroad' / 'sun' etc.. which is wrong.
