iwantideas.com goes live!

It’s just one of many sites that will be developed between now and september (when i start back in college), but iwantideas.com is by no means a stocking filler.

It’s very much a dark horse website and one that has tonnes of potential. It’s unqiue, it’s simple, it’s classy and it’s one i’d use myself if i was neutral.

iwantideas.com

That makes it one to watch and it’ll be interesting to see how it goes. I believe that once people see the sort of ideas already on it, they’ll be more inclined to add theirs. So i started off by adding my 18 random ideas from that post (which is still raking in traffic daily to this blog). I’ll be adding more ideas as i come up with them.

Hopefully the site will inspire and act as a testing ground for people with ideas. Other people can then rate the idea and leave feedback. The site is using pligg to power it along with a customized free theme. It’s definitely not your standard pligg site, but it’s perfect for this particular idea / site.

So it’s yet another new site up and running following on from charitybypass.com and wifimapper.com.  There’s about 3 more brand new sites on the horizon and about half a dozen planned revamps.

I’ve about 20 other sites/domains that have yet to be developed or put in to the development ‘queue’ so to speak. But i’m slowly getting through them all one by one… I’ve also spent some time setting up a twitter profile for this site and a nice custom designed background

iwantideas.com goes live tomorrow

I’ve spent a large chunk of the day working on iwantideas.com.

This site has massive potential and it’s very important it’s done right to stand a chance of fulfilling that potential. At the minute, i’ve taken the site offline whilst it undergoes major cosmetic surgery.

iwantideas.com

The new version will be 100 times better looking, quicker, more user friendly and less cluttered. I’ve got a lot done today…. so much so that i should be able to roll out the new leaner, meaner site tomorrow.

As i said yesterday, this site will compliment another that i plan on building shortly. Both of them are related to ideas, synergy and feedback etc… and it’s an area i’m eager to get more involved in online.

Now, more than ever, people will be networking with each other, trading ideas, forming partnerships and generally trying to set up new businesses and new safety nets for themselves.

Any site which can directly or indirectly aid those people is going to be well received ;-) I’m not really effected by jobs and recessions and what not – i’m cocooned up in the education system which is a bit like being in a car in a lightning storm – safest place to be – but it doesn’t mean i have no fear.

If you go right back to day one when i started this blog, i said this;

” It’s not the bently’s and mansions that the google/microsoft/amazon founders have which motivate me. Oh no. It’s the fear of failure. The fear of waking up every morning at 8 o’clock, getting dressed, going to work half asleep. Doing everyday normal things… like having lunch in a canteen.. getting a payslip every week.. i will use that as motivation today and tomorrow and probably 10 years down the line”.

Looking back, that’s a pretty harsh definition of failure but almost 3 years later and it is still the single biggest motivating factor driving me forward. If you think about it, fear drives everything and everyone to some degree. Those who don’t have it are most likely the ones who fail. Look at property developers and banks… no fear attitude has crippled them. Look at car safety – the reason it’s always improving is because of fear. Same can be said about creating businesses – the fear of having no money or maybe the fear of not being no.1 in a market…. it goes on and on but the definition of fear and failure will change from one person to the next.

Anyway, iwantideas.com should be launched tomorrow. Way ahead of schedule. In fact i didn’t really have a schedule for it  It’s looking good though and you guys will be pleasantly surprised ;-)

another new site in development

Today i bought a new domain and installed jobberbase locally with a view to modifying it and putting it live on this new domain eventually.

This site will definitely be going live this summer. It’s related to my new idea site (still under construction) and the two will compliment each other nicely once complete. It has a long way to go obviously (this being day 1) but my recent record and work rate has been good. I’m confident i can complete both of them over the next month or two.

This new site also fills a gap that i know exists. I’ll be using the site myself for my own work – i can’t really say that about any of my other sites. So it will be a useful website (aimed at webmasters / developers) and it’s got a clever name going for it too so if i get the design right, it stands a good chance of hitting the ground running.

My current portfolio /schedule probably looks like a mess on the face of it, but come September i’ll have a lot of pretty cool, unqiue sites under my belt.

  • charitybypass.com (complete, just need content)
  • wifimapper.com (complete, just need content)
  • iwantideas.com (under construction)
  • this new project / site (under construction)
  • irishgolfer.ie (getting revamped)
  • beerchief.com (major revamp coming this summer)
  • new .ie partnership (launching this month)
  • smemon.com (complete)
  • theleavingcert.com (possible revamp)

They’re my main ‘core’ sites…. beyond that i have;

  • famousnerd.com
  • closelyguarded.com
  • chromeguide.com
  • filterednews.com
  • yesnoblog.com
  • jackpot network of sites
  • bluejumpernews.com

I also have plenty more domain names which i have plans for, but no solid dates for completion;

  • gameexclusive.com
  • lolimages.com
  • friendprank.com
  • myalloys.com
  • groundrage.com
  • desktopsnaps.com
  • landmark.me
  • rejected.me
  • sacked.me
  • taxed.me

I’ve another couple of dozen domain names on top of that too…. so many sites, so many ideas, so little time… i love surrounding myself with work though and drowning myself in it. It means that no matter how well i think i’ve done, i can never get lazy and give up.

May 2009 Review

May was really all about my summer exams – pass and i had the entire summer free, no worries, no distractions… That’s exactly what i did. I haven’t gotten the results back yet (i’ll get them next week), but i know i’ve passed everything. 3rd year here i come…

Portfolio

i cant design

Early in the month i added a new logo page to smemon.com which will hold all of my logo design work. I also jazzed up my entire portolio section with some new funky images. I’m not a designer, but i do design logos for my sites and for other people too so i thought why not put them all up for the world to see…

BeerChief

Earlier in the month i also got met up with a potential new partner for BeerChief. Still nothing solid yet, but it’s just a case of finding the time to sit down and meet up face to face (with 2 it’s easy, with 3 it’s tougher… 3 lives, 3 different workloads/schedules etc… we will be meeting up shortly though (as in this week or possibly next).

New Sites

wifimapper.com was launched in May and i began work on a new .ie project and an idea website – both of which are *almost* complete and should be launching in June (early June).

Skydive

Finally, i got the wheels moving again on my charity skydive last week. I’m creating free logos as part of a special offer and it hasn’t been a bad first week at all – netting me roughly $150 in total. It means i’ve raised a total of $350 (roughly) online so far for the skydive. So i’m over a third of the way towards my goal of $1000

free logos at smemon.com

But the offer still stands… sites for $99, logos for free – if you’re interested of know of anyone who may be, make sure they hear about this offer

Overall

So all in all, May was a good month – progress, hard work, new sites, loads of creative designs and thinking outside the box….. all positive stuff bar the champions league final. Oh yeah, and i got my pagerank back in May too

won’t break the habit

Tonight, i don’t have much ‘free time’…. it’s a bank holiday weekend, the weather is great etc… but i NEVER forget about blogging. I always try to blog at least once per day.

Miss a day, and it disappoints myself. That’s how good / bad a manager of myself i am. So out of guilt, i’m keeping up the routine, even though this posts lacks depth, quality and all the rest of it.

What it does show however is consistency and commitment – it shows that blogging is part of my life and something i ‘have’ to do everyday. That doesn’t happen overnight. Routine takes a long time to get in to and requires a lot of work.

So once i’m in it, i don’t want to stop. I’ll regret it if i do….
