goodbye money, hello investment

It’s hard to post about anything but BeerChief these days as i’m working on it from morning to night. I’m just about finished spending and BeerChief – ‘version 2′, will have cost just under $1200.

BeerChief version 1 cost us almost $10,000 but it was completely outsourced and to professionals. This time around, i’m project manager – i’m tasked with delivering something that will keep me happy. Things are still ticking along nicely and we’re still on course for a January 27th launch date. It will mean version two will have taken exactly 4 weeks to complete.

Version one took about 8 weeks and that was with a team of people working on it. So version 2 will have been completed 50% faster and 90% cheaper than version 1 with less men working on it.

Sounds insane but that’s the way it is and there’s a few reasons for it;

  • I know what i want and go after at. No consulting – i just get it and do it. We wasted a lot of time talking with version 1.
  • Risk-taking. I can afford to take risks. A company can’t. I’ve no problem handing over a few hundred $$$ to someone i don’t know and have never dealt with before. A company or individual can’t risk doing that.
  • It’s my money – it matters a whole lot more when you’re spending your own money. Every cent is precious. If you’re spending someone else’s cash, it doesn’t mean as much.
  • 24/7 work – whilst i don’t literally work 24/7, i do work morning to night on BeerChief every day during the week. About 12 hours per day every day over the last couple of weeks. You won’t find a company who’ll work for you at 3am.

I’m also incredibly passionate about the entire project too. This is my idea after all and i’ve watched it unfold every step of the way. I’ve thrown all the cash i could at it, made mistakes, learned from them and still remain enthusiastic about BeerChief’s future.

BeerChief is now a much stronger position than it was when we launched in private BETA back in July. We’ll still be launching with things i’m not happy with, but that’s life. There’ll always be something i’m not happy with!
