Over the last few weeks, i’ve been bet over €600 on various different sports. It sounds crazy, but in reality i’ve never bet what i didn’t have.

Does This Mean My Luck's Changing?

I started with a balance of €20 on lucky.ie and i’ll place €3/€4/€5 bets here and there. I’ve won and lost plenty but at no stage has my balance been below €14.95, so really, that €600 i’ve bet is a misleading figure.

Still, i’ve managed to bet €600, probably placing hundreds of bets in the process and overall, i’ve turned a profit. I can feel myself getting smarter at betting and risk assessment.

It’s a great way to force yourself in to really thinking hard about statistics and probability, form and luck etc… then making a decision at the end of it all. At the start, i would have bet maybe €2 at even money, meaning i’d get €4 if my team won.

These days i’m happy sticking €10 on at 1.6 odds, meaning i’ll get €16 back if my team wins… of course i have to be wary of losing money… not only will i lose money but i’ll lose monthly battles with Enda which is probably worse!

Over time, it will be very interesting to see if i can turn a profit every single month… my decision making can only become better as i go along and it’s good not just for gambling but in other walks of life too.

Betting ‘in play’ requires concentration, discipline and acting very quickly. Tennis is a great example of where fractions of seconds can make a big difference. Football is too…. one minute, a side can have all the pressure and are on the attack…. so you back them. Then 10 seconds later the opposiiton could counter attack and go 1-0 up meaning you’re faced with big decisions.

So what started out as a bit of fun and games is actually turning in to a great educational experience for me as i’m managing a budget, making decisions, taking risks etc… of course becoming a master at gambling is not something you want on your CV  but we’re limited to a €20 budget each month which takes the dangerous / addictive elelment out of it really.

As things stand, it looks like i’ll be pocketing €10+ this month of pure profit so thus far, lucky.ie has been a great success story for me in more ways than one. 50+ blog posts in less than a month, €20+ profit, beating Enda for boasting rights, a lesson in decision making / risk management…. the list goes on.

Great idea for a website (lucky.ie) Have you had many signups with Betfair, Bet365 etc? You didnt mention that in the above post, but obviously the main reason behind the website is to make money through affiliates like Betfair and not through gambling. You’re already appearing on first page of google Ireland for some search terms, good work!

we’ve only just got signed up with most affiliates and as far as i know we’ve got zero sign ups so far :-)

but then again we’re only starting out and our primary focus is on content building…

lucky.ie is a long term project that will probably evolve in to a community driven site at some stage…
