first wave of work on JPEGr..

ok, the work done so far on JPEGr: (it’s about 5 days since i acquired it)

  • contact form added.
  • adsense blended more.
  • thumbnail image added above codes when you upload an image.
  • more terms & conditions added.
  • logo on all pages links back to homepage.
  • 100 manual submissions to high PR directories.
  • Added to digg, stumble & delicious.
  • put on all my forum sigs.

Normally, i’d just buy a site and let it sit there gathering dust. I’ve actually spent a bit of cash and time getting JPEGr polished up a bit. I plan on fixing a few other things that annoy me and then i’ll focus on building traffic more. atm, traffic is coming without any work on my part and fairly consistently, so that allows me to focus on developing the site itself.

one click, no revenue…

had to laugh at this:

yes, adsense must be giving away free ads now to advertisers :-)

one click isn’t gonna upset me, but it better not continue!!

time out from business mode…

normally, i’d be browsing forums like a shark looking for domains, ideas, sites…. but the past few days all my focus has been on JPEGr.

i feel it has too much potential for me to simply put on ‘autorun’. So i’m going to focus on it, develop it and push the site out more. A small bit of work over the next few weeks could well pay off in the long run. I’m going to try and open it up to advertisers so i can re-invest the cash in adding new features to the site.

the JPEGr.com domain name has received a lot of praise recently, some saying it’s the best part of the site. I must admit the domain name wasn’t in my mind when i bought the site, i fell for the design and simplicity of the site. Looking back on it, perhaps the domain WAS the best part of the deal.

So with a decent site, traffic and quality domain name, JPEGr could possibly earn enough for me to live on in the long term :-) (well, for my college days).

stumbled, digged, blogged…

JPEGr yesterday, was digged, stumbled upon and blogged about, all be it on a small scale. None the less it brought in a wad of traffic from china in particular.

Over 500 unique’s yesterday from 57 different countries. Over 1500 page impressions. Alexa rank sprang 30,000 places to around the 50k mark. More progress and i’m absolutely delighted.

I’ve sourced a coder to work on the site and am now cleaning up a few things that were annoying me. Hopefully, it will improve user experience and first impressions. As i’ve upped the traffic, upped the alexa ranking and am now improving the script, JPEGr’s value will have shot up this week. I’d slap a $1200 price tag on it atm. If traffic stays at current levels, it will be worth $2k in a months time. Not bad, considering i bought it for $500 just a few days ago.

JPEGr an instant hit…

yesterday was JPEGr’s first full day under my ownership.

Despite zero advertising, it received just over 1000 hits from 170 unique visitors. What surprised me most was the location of the hit’s. An even spread across the world. Majority coming from Europe & the US but a nice scattering across the southern hemisphere also.

Hits from 33 countries worldwide. Today so far, JPEGr is on course to equal yesterdays numbers so it’s all good so far. Yesterday, 55 people registered on the site, today, 30 so far.
One concern i have is the adsense text links. Despite over 1000 page impressions, there were only 2 clicks. (low paying clicks as well). So from a revenue point of view, it’s under-performing. I may be forced to display regular/rectangular banner ads if the text link ads don’t deliver. However they blend in well with the site and i’m very reluctant to change any part of the site with a seemingly consistent traffic flow.

I’ve also hired someone to submit the site to over 100 PR4,5,6,7 & 8 directories so that should cement a low pagerank and bring in a few visitors in the process. So far, JPEGr has been an absolute steal. With a bit of advertising, it can become a reliable source of income which is exactly what I want.
